Chili pepper is a common household spice that had been in existence for a hundreds of years. It is a vegetable but is commonly referred to as a spice variety. Chili pepper contributes to the hotness and spicy taste in a meal. Some countries and regions all over the world uses chili peppers as a table sauce that are eaten directly with the meal. Sounds hot, isnt it? Chili pepper is an ordinary kitchen staple ingredient. Some households incorporate chili peppers in their meals everyday. A meal is never a meal without chili pepper.
Chili peppers have a chemical component known as Capsaicin which is responsible for the chilis hot taste. Capsaicin in a one piece of chili can be washed down by gulping down a glass of milk. Milk is the perfect neutralizer of capsaicin since compounds found in milk blocks the receptors of capsaicin. Water wont really do the trick. There are many variations of chili pepper and these are: habanero, jalapeno, cayennes, tabasco, etc. Chili peppers are further subdivided into three categories namely: sweet peppers, hot peppers and bell peppers.
Chili cook offs in Arizona are sometimes organized by organizations that promote public awareness about chili. They are responsible to promote chili and its historical and cultural significance to people. Funds that are gathered during cook offs are used to give out to charities, create programs that will educate people about the benefits of chili. One such benefit is that chili can be a very good medicine source. Contest prizes are awarded to people who garnered to have the best chili recipe throughout the chili cook off.
Cook offs are always held with contests on who has the best chili recipe. Some criteria for judging the best tasting chili dish are: aroma, red color, consistency, taste (of course!) and aftertaste.
There are many recipes which can be done through chili peppers. Chili con Carne is a classic favorite and it is very easy to make. It is usually the recipe made during cook offs. Chili con carne is a family favorite. It is widely popular to be a Mexican dish but its roots are actually proven to be Texan.
